Text Box: August 19 saw the final session of Summer Skills at LCPC. This was the fourth year for the program, and a number of changes occurred. We had twenty students from several elementary schools enrolled this year. A change in program format had sessions held weekly over nearly two months this summer. We had a few more attendance problems this year and this may have been the result of our “extended” schedule. A new addition to our facility was a reading area complete with pillows made by JoAnne Schoeneck and colorful bath towels, perfect for relaxing with a good summer read! Writing and math centers, along with our very popular game and computer areas completed our stations. Our reading and snack times highlighted Patricia Polacco books with coordinating snacks. (Thunder cake was my favorite!) Our faithful staff of Kris and Tiffany DeRemer, JoAnne and Johanna Schoeneck, Joyce Mix and Peg Redka, along with help from several church family volunteers made staffing easy this year. As our children leave the program to begin a new school year this fall, please pray they will have a successful and rewarding year.
