Text Box: Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Fall is now officially upon us. That means once again the church is putting the finishing touches on goals, various ministry plans, and most important of all, preparing the annual church budget for the coming ministry year. As always I view our focus on dollars and the upcoming stewardship season as an opportunity to think and to discuss more about the nature of giving and assessing giving and living habits.  The Bible clearly states, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Along these lines, I offer you some food for thought concerning the nature of our living and our giving.  More specifically, I challenge us all to consider where our treasure and hearts are.  After all, you can say your treasure is truly in heaven when…

-You are known more for what you give than for what you have.

-Your unbelieving friends wonder why you don’t live in a larger home.

-You spend more time searching the Scriptures than for a good deal.

-You know your way better around the Bible than you do around the shopping mall.

-You’re more concerned about sharing gospel on Christmas Day
than what gifts you get.

-You spend more time praying for the lost
than praying for material things you don’t need.

-You are a debtor to mercy alone and not credit card companies.

-You’re more excited about the Second Coming than the latest I-Phone.

-You’re not daydreaming about what you would do if you had more money.

-You give without the expectation of receiving something in return.

-You know more Bible verses than you do fashion brands and retailers.

-You know more about what’s going on in the mission field
than in the stock market.

-You are prepared, ready, willing, able, and glad
to give to those who are in need.

-Your giving is driven by delight and not by duty.

What a radically different way of viewing our spending habits and attitudes, our giving, and our overall relationship to money. Again, as we head into this upcoming stewardship season I challenge you to believe the gospel enough that our hearts find their true treasure in Christ alone.

In Him,
