Text Box:              As we all know full well the earthquake in Haiti has caused massive destruction and suffering. And by the time you are reading this the situation will inevitably worsen. The people in Haiti need our help, and thankfully many thousands are responding.  Several have asked me what we can do as a church. One, pray.  Continue to pray for safety and food and water.  Two, give. I am pleased to report that one of our local ministry partners, I-TEC, is working to provide emergency power support for the relief operations being put in place for the earthquake victims.  Specifically, they need our financial help to purchase and ship generators to Haiti when the ports are open for receiving containers. These generators will remain in Haiti and continue to provide emergency power for churches and ministries in the years to come.  Funds may be sent to:  I-TEC, 23 Green Hollow Road, Montoursville, PA 17754 (Designate: Haiti Relief). In addition, if you're looking for a national/global organization to channel your money through for Haiti, here are a dozen others that I would personally recommend:

Some have been asking the question, “Why give to Haiti when so little progress appears to have been made over the years to lift that country out of poverty?”  Two responses. One, we give because Scripture commands us to be compassionate and liberal givers to the poor.  Two, the question could just as easily be turned on ourselves. Meaning, we could ask the same question about America as we continue to walk away from God.  Why keep on investing?  Because Jesus also commands us to plant seeds far and wide.  Ironically, this earthquake could plant, in ways that we could never imagine, seeds for spiritual renewal in that impoverished country.  The Haitian people largely rely on voodoo and the occult to keep evil spirits (and according to that worldview, bad and misfortunate events) at bay. Well, voodoo really, really let them down.  And of course, voodoo keeps many Haitians living in a state of anarchy and spiritual oppression. Where will they turn in this time of trouble?   I pray, to the one true living God.

In Christ’s hope,
